10th Dynasty

Fact 1 on 10th Dynasty:

The 9th line of Herakleopolitan rulers had taken control of Lower Egypt in the north of Egypt but  failed in their efforts to control Upper Egypt in the south.
 

Fact 2 on 10th Dynasty:

The country of Egypt was therefore divided without a stable, central government and recovery from the effects of a terrible famine which had led to the death of 500,000 Egyptians.
 

Fact 3 on 10th Dynasty:

The Herakleopolitan rulers had attempted to strip power from the Nomarchs which led to massive resentment and open hostilities, especially in Thebes (see map below)
 

Fact 4 on 10th Dynasty:

The second line of Herakleopolitan rulers faced continuing instability and friction with Thebes and Upper Egypt in the south of the country.
 

Fact 5 on 10th Dynasty:

The 'Turin Canon' is an extensive list available of kings, written by the ancient Egyptians.  The 'Turin Canon' lists eighteen kings for this royal line, but their names are damaged, unidentifiable, or lost.
 

Fact 6 on 10th Dynasty:

The Nomarchs were still enjoying complete authority and independence in the southern provinces.
 

Fact 7 on 10th Dynasty:

Allies of the Herakleopolitan rulers were located in the Asyut region (see map below)
 

Fact 8 on 10th Dynasty:

The Herakleopolitan rulers allowed an assault on Upper Egypt by their violent allies in Asyut.
 

Fact 9 on 10th Dynasty:

The Asyut duly attacked cities in Upper Egypt vandalizing sacred tombs and corpses. These despicable actions were viewed as acts of sacrilege.
 

Fact 10 on 10th Dynasty:

The furious reaction of the people of Upper Egypt, especially in Thebes, would lead to the ruin and capitulation of the rulers based in Herakleopolis and the end of the First Intermediate Period.
