Fact 1 on 12th Dynasty: | The previous line of kings collapsed following a palace coup led by the Vizier Amenemhat who established the 12th Dynasty. The capital initially remained in Thebes (see map below) but moved to the city of It-tawy. | Fact 2 on 12th Dynasty: | The city of It-tawy was founded at the beginning of the Middle Kingdom by King Amenemhat I.
