Name: This pharaoh of ancient Egypt was also known as Djoserty or Djoserti. His name means "Powerful in Body." His nebty name is Djeseti-ankh.
 

Fact 2 on Sekhemkhet:

History: He ruled as the king of Egypt during the period in ancient Egyptian history known as the Old Kingdom and was a pharaoh of the 3rd dynasty of kings presumably by right of inheritance. He succeeded King Djoser to the throne.
 

Fact 3 on Sekhemkhet:

Family: The name of his parents are unknown. There are no records that the previous king, Djoser, had a son and his relationship to Sekhemkhet is unknown. It is likely that Sekhemkhet was, however, a close family member.

Family: He married Djeseretnebti but there is no specific information about the queen or whether they had any children. He was succeeded by Khaba but their relationship is unknown.

In ancient Egypt the highest-ranking government official was the High Chancellor, now called the Vizier. King Djoser had appointed the brilliant genius Imhotep in this position and he continued in the position and acted as an advisor to Sekhemkhet.

The king continued the military campaigns, initiated by Djoser, in the desert areas containing the copper and turquoise mines.

He also followed the example of King Djoser and initiated the building of a second step pyramid at Saqqara with Imhotep again the architect.

The building of the funerary complex of the second pyramid was built southwest of Djoser's pyramid at Saqqara. It included a pyramid, a subterranean structure and a necropolis complex.

The second pyramid was designed to be bigger than that of King Djoser with seven, rather than six, 'steps'.

Only the first 'step' was completed. The king died suddenly. Only the first step of the pyramid had been built, leaving a monument in shape of a large Mastaba, in which the king was buried.

This pyramid was not discovered until 1952, it was covered in the desert sands, and therefore given the title of the 'Hidden Pyramid'.
